PCHSI am interested in information about Germania. My Great Grandfather, Mathias Walter, was born n Germania in 1865. His mother's brother, Casper Neubauer, built St Germain's Church in Germania. We have a painting of an old Log cabin where the family lived, circa 1860. Anyone who has any Germania info I would love to hear from you.
PCHSI remember the first day of hunting season in the 40th and 50th, the town was full of hunters in their red wool outfits. During the following week the maple trees around the courthouse were full of hanging deer, On the corner by the red light there was a pole where the bear were hung.,and the fire escape on the Hotel Crittenden was also loaded with more deer. Homes were opened to the visiting hunters and many of my friends were up early helping serve breakfast and packing lunches for the men. The good old days

PCHSThis is a great site with lots of information. I am very interested in the 'Old Hickory' house. I would like to learn more about it's story. I read that it was built in the early 1800's and also read about the Coudersport Fire. Why wasn't this house burned? People have written that only the courthouse didn't burn...I'm very curious and want to learn everything I can about the house. It has amazing architecture and, I'm sure, an amazing story. Thanks Much to all who can help!

PCHSI stumbled upon this site while searching for information on my Great, Great, Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Crippen. My Grandma Rose (who passed away when I was 13, back in 1979) talked often of her ancestors and that they came over on the Mayflower. I'm searching for a source, a book called "The Crippens of Potter County" (Pennsylvania). Crippen/Thankful Fuller.
PCHSGreat Site, Beautiful history, like most people with the Potter surname, I am always interested in the origins and history.
PCHSGreat site,, my only complaint is that there is almost no info on the roulette area
PCHSGreat site, wish that Wayne County had a similar one, as my Grimes and Dillon relatives once lived in Honesdale, before coming to Galeton, and I can find very little about them. Anyhow, I would like to respond a little to Chuck Johnson's query about his grandmother, Anna Meine Breunig. My grandfather was Charles Breunig, the brother of her husband Joseph. She died in Wellsboro at the age of 99, and I often visited her there, in the company of my grandmother Sophie Woelfel Breunig and my mother Gladys Breunig Grimes. She was a wonderful woman who made aprons and pillow covers well into her nineties. She apparently lived in Coudersport at the time of my birth, because Mom stayed there in the two weeks before I was born on January 29, 1939, just to make sure that bad weather wouldn't make the journey to the hospital a really harrowing experience. I would love to hear from Chuck--he must be the son of Arthur and Marie Breunig Johnson; we have lost touch with most of the recent generations of Breunigs, but I am interested in genealogy and could tell him what I know. Sincerely, Julia Grimes Chary
PCHSI was interested in obtaining information on my ggrandfather, Howard A. Parsons. Although I was not able to obtain that information, I did enjoy reading all information that was posted.

PCHSThank you for providing such a wonderful site. I went to school in Shinglehouse 4th thru 6th in the old school, and started the 7th in the new (present) school(early 50s). My mother Dot Cornelius, sisters Virginia, Helen and brother Richard also went to the old school. Grandfather was Ellery Cornelius,1898-1963/68 ? who married Hazel Osborn, was the son of Amos Cornelius (1875-1944)and Katherine Owens (1882-1927),buried in Chrystal. At one time Ellery owned or managed the old Arlington hotel, had a Intl Harvester dealership, worked at the Glass Factory, and played Baseball. He later moved to a farm in Portville (WWII)and died in Georgia. Great Grandfather Amos Cornelius was the son of Gabriel Cornelius (B 1841)and Jane Green (????) of Hebron, formerly of Elmira, New York. I had/have a lot of family ties in the area but have lost touch with all but Helen. My father was James Whitcomb Riley Wood, son of William Wood, and Alice Steadman both of Oswayo, who were married in Ceres July 11, 1907 . I believe William who was a driller is buried in Oswayo. I plan on visiting this year,in an attempt to link up the missing pieces of family History. Any information on Cornelius, Wood, Steadman, Owen(s), and Osborn history would be appreciated. Jim Wood, (1942-2???)

PCHSsuper!
PCHSStopping by to register my updated e-mail address. Am searching for further information on my paternal G-grandfather, Lewis A Myers -- he was a glass-blower who moved to the Roulette area sometime in the late 1880 - 1890's. He also dabbled in carpentry and woodwork & helped to build the Eimer House in Roulette; he owned a restaurant in the vicinity of River Street about 1906 (I have a clipping from the newspaper of that time telling of the sale of the building to him. He migrated West about 1911 when my dad, Milbert C. Myers (b. May 1, 1909) was about 2 yrs old. I have a newspaper clipping stating that he died in Witchita Falls, TX in 1953. He would have been nearly 100 yrs old. Hope someone can possibly shed some further light on the "years in between". Am also searching for information on my maternal grandfather's sister, Chloe Clark from N. Bingham, who married a gentleman with the last name of Grosshaun (s). I have a picture of them taken about 1900 -- they lived for some time in the village of Gold and then moved on to the Rochester, NY area -- any further information would be most welcome! Thank you !!
PCHSNice site! My parents used to own a bit of land in Potter Cty, and we vacationed there several times a year. Had to sell the property about 10 years ago, and really miss it. I wish there were more detailed maps, though. I was very young and don't remember names of roads. I may take a trip up in the future and would like to visit the old "stomping grounds..." If anyone knows if there are detailed maps online anywhere or is very familiar with the area and would be able to help, please let me know.
