CHRISTIAN CONVENTION

 

There will be a Christian Convention at Harrison Valley, June 21, 22, 23.  The first day the subject of Christian work will be considered; the second day, Divine Healing, and the third day, Christian Holiness.  A cordial invitation extended to all.  Lets Christian friends come with the spirit of our dear Master to pray fully consider the needs of our own souls and of those about us.

Evening service commenced at White’s Corners. School house Jan. 1st Elder Warren announced he has a large congregation the first evening, but not so many on following evenings.  Strange that a tambourine will attract more that a sound sermon.  The lively and stirring tunes sung, perhaps, contribute more than any thing else.

Revival meetings at White’s Corners school house by Elder Warren, assisted by two or three new converts from H. V. closed Mon. eve.  Most of our young people here have been converted and several middle aged persons, who never before seemed personally concerned about religion, have started to lead new lives.  Neighbors who had been at variance mutually asked forgiveness and are clasping hands.

White’s Corners:  The meetings held by the Salvation boys resulted in a great deal of good many persons converted and backsliders proclaimed.  We think White’s Corners is destined to see better times both spiritually and socially.  The donation held at J. S. Haynes’ for Rev. Warren, more than paid the pastor’s claims at this place.

Mrs. Johnson, an old lady, nearly eighty years old, died on the morning of the 16th, and on the evening of the same day, her little grandson, Leroy Farnum, died.  Funerals of both held at White’s Corner school house, Thursday.  Sermon by Rev. C. Smith of Harrison Valley.  (This was the funeral held on Feb. 17, 1887, when Mrs. Erma Monroe closed school for the service.)

Faith Convention to be held three days at Harrison Valley.  Many came from a distance.  Seventy five testified to being healed by prayer.  Fifty presented requests for prayer some of whom have been heard from and have been entirely healed.  On the last day over eighty persons went forward as seekers after Christian Holiness.  Another Convention appointed at Elkland, Sept. 6th and 7th.

DIED:  At the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Hulburt, aged 85 years.  Moved to Millport in 1837 where he engaged in lumbering.  In 1840 moved to Sweden and in 1847 to Hebron where he lived until old age when he came to make his home with his daughter.

Fred Daniels, a son of Hod. S. Daniels was killed by the cars last Friday afternoon.  Was Coupling cars when his foot caught in a crevice between a plank and the rail.  The engine was only a few feet away and could not stop.  He fell on his face and was crushed by the wheels.  Lived about four hours, but was unconscious.  Remains taken to Lawrenceville by special train on Sunday for burial.  Was eighteen years of age.  Father is conductor on the road.
